Germs in Beer Pong - How to Identify and Avoid Beer Pong Germs

Reduce Germ Spread in Beer Pong

Whenever you play beer pong, there is some risk of getting sick or spreading germs.  This article looks at some instances where germs may be spread, and offers methods to address the issues and reduce the intake of germs.  I have personally never gotten germs from beer pong, so I like to think these tips will help.

Identify Potential Threats:

  1. Reusing Cups
  2. Dirty Table Surface
  3. Dirty Balls
  4. Unwashed Hands
  5. Environment

These are what I imagine to be the worst threats.  Here are my tricks to reduce germ spread.

  1. To avoid germs by reusing cups, simply replace the cups after each game.  It is probably fine if you use your cups for two or three games, as long as you do not share.  But, you always have to be careful, and make sure your opponents wash their ball in the water cup, or else the beer pong ping pong ball may be dirty.
  2. Dirty table surfaces are one of the easiest aspects to control.  Playing on wood tables, or any home-made table is a ticking time-bomb for germs.  The wood can absorb water, and decay and grow mold, and allow germs in.  The best way to avoid a dirty beer pong table is to purchase a beer pong table with a smooth surface.  Red Cup Pong (www.redcuppong.com) offers the cleanest tables in my opinion.   Their table surfaces are flat, and easy to wipe clean.  They help resist stains, and their premium models even have protective surfaces.
  3. Playing with a clean ball is essential to avoiding germ spread.  We recommend dipping the ball in a water cup every shot to clean off anything that may get on the ball during an interest beer pong match.  Table manufacturers aiming at a germ-free beer pong night, such as Red Cup Pong, often offer ball racks to hold balls not in play.
  4. Unwashed hands are the one aspect in beer pong where you have the least control, yet you have all the control.  Ask that everyone wash their hands before the game, and stays clean.
  5. The environment you play in is likely the most important aspect of a healthy beer pong game.  Clearly there is a lot less to worry about in a well kept living room that a fraternity house.  We highly recommend getting a portable beer pong table, like the tables seen on www.redcuppong.com.  With these tables, you can make the most of smaller rooms and quickly clean up when you are done.  The beer pong tables manufactured by Red Cup Pong are made to be portable, and fold into 2 foot by 2 foot briefcases with carrying handles for easy transportation.

So these are our thoughts on removing the spread of germs in beer pong games and beer pong tournaments.
